Its Time to Boycott College Classes Essay -- argumentative essay

College is hard, though not because we lack creature comforts or exertion to keep our bellies full. No, college is hard because its so often an artificial environment. After four short years of learning, when veritableity intrudes on our life, well be left shaking cobwebs go forth of heads bleary from months of mind-numbing lectures and multiple choice exams. Personally, the end of college scargons me. As a sophomore, I have a couple of years before having to face that beastly post-college cliche, real life That popular opinion alone is enough to make me roll up into a ball and cry. Of course there is something that scares me more than college -- a dark, vague thought that intrudes on my consciousness, infecting my outlook on school. Im scared that the time I spent here will be wasted. As a pre-med, struggling to make the build and ride the curve, time is a commodity in short supply. Like many students, the crunch of jamming my schedule full of classes quells my passion for l earning. Sometimes I find myself in my room, books cracked open, and I oddment, what the hell am I doing? Am I happy? Where is this learning leading me? A friend of mine, in a similar academic situation, commented that he felt corresponding he was losing his personality in his studying. No kidding -- sometimes I feel like if Catholics are right, and demons can possess your mind, it must all be directed by a God who dislikes organic chemistry students, and wants to leave them whimpering for mercy. Strange metaphors aside, I wonder why someone like me, who enjoys a challenge and loves learning, is no longer cherishing this opportunity to polish his mental faculties and sharpen his mind to a keen edge. Id like to think my doubts about the v... ...endation is to boycott classes that fail to generate consistent interaction between professors and students. As for the required classes within a major that jam hundreds of pupils into a room, if enough students petitioned deans to hire mo re teachers, the voice of the masses would not be ignored. Listen boys and girls, I know balancing budgetary restraints with educational goals taxes the brains of some of the brightest, nevertheless Im tired of playing a game to cram my head full of facts without really understanding where they came from. Shoving it into short-term memory and then sloughing it just isnt snub it for me. Rather, I would love to see a tuition and fee increase that explicitly aimed to reduce the size of large lectures instead of bolstering another bloated sport program. I would love to see my student government fight for such an increase.

He went to an attorney and found that the only thing his contract didnt forbid him to do was childrens books.(Diehl171)Geisels first childrens book came roughly in 1936 when he was on vacation in Europe. He was listening to the rhythm of the stations engines, he came up with And to think I saw it on Mulberry Street. It was rejected by 43 publishers that he showed it to. Theodore won an Oscar for it, though he had little to no part in General Mc-Boing Boing. (Diehl172)In May 1954, Life magazine published an article about illiteracy among school

The Appeal of Home :: Essays Papers

The Appeal of HomeIn the Greek camp at the end of the Iliad, we see Achilleus make it at the conclusion that is the theme of the entire poemthat to be mortal is to suffer. However, Homer leaves unanswered the logical question regarding this conclusion If to live is to suffer, then wherefore live at all? This then becomes the central question of the Odyssey, in which we are given an entirely different kind of character who rejects two clean-cut possibilitiesan immortal relationship and a utopian communityfor his own wife and his homecoming (I, 13). The question we are then compelled to ask is, what could Penelope and his Ithakan household perchance offer that is worth more than utopia and immortality? To illustrate what Odysseus couldve had, Homer shows us a contrast for each aspect of Odysseuss longinga couple and a community. Through these contrasts, we are shown just why these options dont measure up for Odysseus. The immortal couple is embodied in the marriage of Helen and Men elaos, who have been promised the eq of eternal bliss in the Elysian Fields. While Menelaos had his homecoming delayed, he never had to resist temptation along the way. The Trojan War and the journey stake are nostalgic stories for him, to be recounted for guests as a means of recapturing the past glory of fighting. And Helen, unlike Penelope, certainly has never been one to spurn attractive men and remain loyal to her husband, or to anything at all for that matter. She could not even choose a side in a war fought ostensibly for her sake (IV, 250-284). It is meaningful that, rather than have to deal with the guests weeping, she slips something in their drinks to prevent their show of emotion (IV, 219-227). Helen avoids connection with men while her husband wants only to connect with the past. erstwhile guaranteed immortality, there is no pressing need for either of them to attempt the extraordinarily difficult task of truly understanding one another because there is ceaseless ly time for that later. This is the marriage that Odysseus couldve had had he stayed with Kalypso, but he understands its emptiness and refuses it, instead choosing a woman whom he knows has spent the interceding years resisting men whom Helen wouldve jumped right into bottom of the inning with. But Odysseus returns for more than just the single meaningful relationship between himself and Penelope.

Make or Buy Decision Essay

Taiwanese smart yell maker HTC Corporation is considering outsourcing manufacturing to early(a) companies to improve its efficiency. Before building its own brand, HTC squeezed on manufacturing low-end smart call backs for companies same(p) Apple. However, in recent years, HTC has been under pressure from shareholders to reduce represents because of loss net operating income for the third quarter of 2013. Now, HTC wants to change its strategy they want to concentrate on the research and development of high-end smart phones and outsource about of their low-end smart phone production to ontogenesis their sufficiency and lower the hails. In the smart phone industry, in order to improve efficiency, it is important for the phone makers to build more commoditized products and universally outsource some products to manufacturers who can produce cheaper products. However, just as the Yuanta Securities psychoanalyst Dennis Chan says, there are many factors that effect whether to make the decision to outsource. HTC definitely brings to consider many factors to answer whether they result continue making products or outsourcing (Dou, 2013). Problem IdentificationThe case above is talking about how HTC suffers from a new situation about whether to continue producing smart phones or outsource them to other manufacturing companies. Actually it is a make or buy decision problem in accounting. Make or buy decision is a decision to deal out manufacturing a product in-house or purchasing it from an outside supplier. As every order comes under increasing pressure to reduce embodys and increase their return on assets, it shows an increased importance to managers whether to keep the activities, even the key parts, in-house or outsource them (Gambino, 1980). Outsourcing is an important part in make-or-buy decision making. For HTC, if the production cost is much higher than outsourcing the low-end smart phone to other companies, or it doesnt have sufficient production cap acity to produce it internally, outsourcing seems a better selection for the follow. However, in the business world, it is not easy to determine whether a make-or-buy decision is good for the company there are many factors to consider. The following part will describe the factors which have an effect on make-or-buy decisions. Accounting Method ExplanationMake-or-Buy DecisionMake-or-buy decisions occur in business when a company needs to decide whether to produce goods internally or to purchase them externally. This typically is an issue when a company has the capacity to manufacture products or they can purchase the products on the market. When analyzing a make-or-buy business decision, it is necessary for managers to look at several factors. The analysis must examine thoroughly all of the be related to manufacturing the products as well as all the costs related to purchasing the product. 1. Quantitative factors and Qualitative factors. The make-or-buy decision involves both decim al analysis and qualitative analysis. Quantitative factors can be figure and compared subjective judgment and multiple opinions are required when we want to examine some quantitative factors. Also, we need to consider various factors from all angles when the make-or-buy decision is used, because some of the factors involved can be quantified with certainty, while other factors cannot. Quantitative factors include things such as the accessibility of production facilities, production capacity, and all of the resources needed. Variable and mulish costs are also important factors when analyzing the make-or-buy decision. Similarly, quantitative costs also include the price of the product in the marketplace. The comparison between the production cost and purchasing cost is one of the most important processes in analyzing the make or buy decision. Qualitative factors are more difficult to measure than quantitative factors and more subjective judgment needs to be taken into consideration. For example, the reputation and reliability of the suppliers, the possibility and the likelihood of changing or reversing the decision in the future, and the long haul outlook regarding production or purchasing the product are all typical qualitative factors. In the HTC outsourcing case, identifying and picking up the quantitative and qualitative factors is the startleborn step. First, for the quantitative part, the variable and fixed costs of producing the smart phones must be taken into consideration. Usually, variable costs include direct materials, direct labor, and variable overhead. Also, we need to collect the data about the salary paid for workers and supervisors, depreciation of the equipment, and the allocated general overhead. The purchasing price of smart phones which the supplieroffered is another required factor when analyse production cost. Secondly, for the quantitative part, HTC needs to do a lot of research to know whether their supplier has a good reputation an d reliability, and analysis the benefits and costs if they prefer to purchase the smart phones from the supplier instead of producing them. 2. The analysis must also separate relevant costs from irrelevant costs and look only at the relevant costs. When making the make-or-buy decision, it is necessary to distinguish between relevant and irrelevant costs. Relevant costs for making the product are all the costs that could be avoided by purchasing the product. An avoidable cost can be eliminated in whole or partially through choosing one alternative over another. In the HTC case, by choosing to purchase smart phones from another supplier, the cost of manufacturing the phones can be avoided. In reality, opportunity cost is very common when considering the relevant costs. Opportunity cost is the potential benefit that is given up when one alternative is selected over another. Take the HTC case for example if the smart phone manufacturing facilities are idle, and the company accepts to ou tsource the smart phone, the opportunity cost is zero and it means there is no impact on the cost related to the opportunity cost. However, if the company decides to use the expertness to produce another kind of product, the opportunity cost incurred. According to the variant situations, it may change the managers decision. Irrelevant costs are the costs that will be incurred no matter whether the product is manufactured internally or purchased externally. There are two kinds of categories of irrelevant costs when we make the make-or-buy decision. The first one is suck cost, which is always incurred during the operation process and cannot be avoided irrespective of what decision the manager makes. In the HTC case, the manufacturing facilities have been purchased no matter if the smart phone is made or purchased from a supplier, the costs of the manufacturing facilities (fixed cost) have been incurred. Another irrelevant cost is future cost which has no impact on the alternatives. F ollowing the HTC case, the company needs to promote the smart phone through advertisement in order to gain big sales. If the company is going to allocate the same ad fee to the promotion regardless of producing them or purchasing them, the future cost is an irrelevant cost when making the decision. The analysis must also consider the availability of the product and the quality of the productunder each of the two scenarios. Other factorssuch as the availability of the product and the quality of the product under different alternativesare also important for an manager to make the make or buy decision. Following the HTC example, if the company chooses to produce the smart phone internally regardless of their deficiency in production capability, it can lead to poor quality products or low efficiency in production. In a long-run perspective, the company may not make a good decision. In order to get more accurate information about the products and the suppliers who can offer satisfactory prices and high quality products, the company needs to do research. This includes internal research and collecting business data from outside professional research companies which can post more accurate information.ReferencesDou, E. (2013). What was once a toy of the rich has now turned into the vehicle of choice for growing wealth. This demand coupled with advances in occupation technology has opened up the markets so that nowadays nearly anybody gouge own stocks. This paper is intended to explain all the basic questions about the investing. This will help wise investors to lighten up their confusions and equip them the basic idea of behave Market. Basic of Stock Market What Are Stocks?Stock is a trade in the ownership of a company. Stock represents a claim on the companys assets and earnings. As you acquire more stock, your ownership stake in the company becomes greater. Shares, equity, or stock, it all means the same thing. Being an Owner Holding a companys stock means that you are one of the many owners (shareholders) of a company and, as such, you have a claim (albeit usually very small) to boththing the company owns. This means that expertly you own a tiny sliver of every piece of furniture, every trademark, and every contract of the company. As an owner, you are entitled to your share of the companys earnings as well as any voting rights attached to the stock. A stock is correspond by a stock certificate. This is a fancy piece of paper that is p roof of your ownership. In todays computer age, shareholders wont actually get to see this document because the brokerage keeps these records electronically, which is as well known as holding shares. In the past, when a person wanted to sell his or her shares, that person physically took the certificates down to the brokerage. Now, handicraft rotter be done with a click of the mouse or a phone call.Debt vs. Equity why does a company issue stock? Why would the founders share the internet with thousands of people when they could keep profits to themselves? The reason is that at some point every company needs to raise money. To do this, companies can either buy out it from somebody or raise it by selling part of the company, which is known as issuing stock. A company can borrow by taking a loan from a bank or by issuing bonds. Both methods fit under the umbrella of debt financing. On the former(a) hand, issuing stock is called equity financing.Issuing stock is advantageous for th e company because it does not require the company to pay back the money or make interest payments along the way. All that the shareholders get in outlet for their money is the hope that the shares will someday be worth more than what they paid for them. The first sales agreement of a stock, which is issued by the private company itself, is called the initial public rendering (IPO) (Mladjenovic, 2002). When buying a debt investment such as a bond, shareholders are guaranteed the return of their money (the principal) along with promised interest payments. But in equity investment, being one of the owners of the company, shareholders assume the risk of the company not being successful just as a small business owner isnt guaranteed a return, neither is a shareholder. Shareholders earn a lot if a company is successful, but they also stand to lose their entire investment if the company isnt successful. Risk It must be emphasized that there are no guarantees when it comes to individual stocks. Some companies pay out dividends, but many others do not.And there is no obligation to pay out dividends even for those firms that have traditionally given them. Without dividends, an investor can make money on a stock only through its appreciation in the open market. On the downside, any stock may go bankrupt, in which occurrence shareholders investment is worth nothing. Although risk might sound all negatives, there is also a bright side. Taking on the greater risk also demands a greater return on investment. This is the reason why stocks have historically outperformed other investments such as bonds or savings accounts.Over the long term, an investment in stocks has historically had an average return of around 10-12%. Different Types of Stocks There are two main types of stocks greenness stock and preferred stock. Common Stock A roughhewn stock is the basic stock a corporation issues. It just shows that shareholder own a fraction of the company. The common stocks are direct influenced by failures and successes of the company. Common stocks are more of a gamble. Since there is a higher chance of making profit, common stock owners are issued their dividends or profits after the preferred stock.Over the long term, common stock, by means of capital growth, yields higher returns than almost every other investment. If a company goes bankrupt and liquidates, the common shareholders will not receive money until the creditors, bondholders and preferred shareholders are paid. Preferred Stock Preferred stock represents some degree of ownership in a company but usually doesnt come with the same voting rights (Wikipedia, 2006). After all the common stock has been issued, companies begin to distribute preferred stock. The preferred stock owners are given their dividends before the common stock owners are. Also, if the company goes out of business, and liquidates, the preferred stock owners are paid back the money they invested before the common stockholders ar e reimbursed. The main drawback of preferred stocks is that they cannot benefit as much from company profits because they are only paid a fixed dividend payment. How Stocks Trade some stocks traded on exchanges, which are places where buyers and sellers meet and decide on a expenditure. Some exchanges are physical positionings where transactions are carried out on a trading floor. The other type of exchange is virtual, composed of a network of computers where trades are made electronically Internet trading. The purpose of a stock market is to palliate the exchange of securities between buyers and sellers, reducing the risks of investing. The New York Stock Exchange The most prestigious exchange in the world is the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) (Encarta, 2006). The prodigious Board was founded over 200 years ago in 1792, with the signed of the Buttonwood Agreement by 24 New York City stockbrokers and merchants.Orders come in through brokerage firms that are members of the excha nge and flow down to floor brokers who go to a specific spot on the floor where the stock trades. At this location, known as the trading post, there is a specific person known as the specialist whose job is to match buyers and sellers. Prices are determined using an auction method the current price is the highest amount any buyer is willing to pay and the lowest price at which someone is willing to sell. one time a trade has been made, the details are sent back to the brokerage firm, who then notifies the investor who placed the order.Although there is human contact in this process, computers play a huge role in the process too. The Nasdaq The second type of exchange is the virtual sort called an over-the-counter (OTC) market, of which the Nasdaq is the most popular. These markets have no central location or floor brokers. Trading is done through a computer and telecommunications network of dealers. A market maker provides continuous bid and ask prices inwardly a prescribed perce ntage spread for shares for which they are designated to make a market. They may match up buyers and sellers directly but usually they will introduce an inventory of shares to meet demands of investors. Other Exchanges The third largest exchange in the U. S. is the American Stock Exchange (AMEX). The AMEX used to be an alternative to the NYSE, but Nasdaq had fill that role since. In fact, the National Association of Securities Dealers (NASD), which is the parent of Nasdaq, bought the AMEX in 1998. Almost all trading now on the AMEX is in small-capitalization stocks and derivatives. Buying StocksYouve now learned what a stock is and a little bit about the principles behind the stock market, but how do investors actually go about buying stocks? Investors dont have to go down into the trading pit yelling and screaming your order. There are two main ways to get stock Using a Brokerage The most common method to buy stocks is to use a brokerage. Brokerages come in two different kinds. Full-service brokerages offer to investors (supposedly) expert advice and can manage the investors account they also charge a lot. While discount brokerages offer little in the way of personal prudence but are much cheaper. At one time, only the wealthy could afford a broker since only the expensive, full-service brokers were available. But when Internet came, the online discount brokers have been available, more affordable. DRIPs & DIPs Dividend reinvestment plans (DRIPs) and direct investment plans (DIPs) are plans by which individual companies, for a minimal cost, allow shareholders to purchase stock directly from the company. Drips are a great way to invest small amounts of money at regular intervals. Bull and Bear MarketsIn addition to the three market theories mentioned above, there are other ways of thinking about the market as a whole, that are less theoretical and more grounded in what is actually happening to them. One way is to break the overall trends in the market, suc h as by defining them as bearish or son of a bitchish. The Bulls A bull market, loosely defined, is a market in which the major stock indexes have risen by over 20% over a substantial period of time, usually measured in months or years. Bull markets can happen as a result of an economic recovery, an economic boom, or simple investor psychology (Khan, 1998).The longest and most famous of all bull markets is the one that began in the early 1990s in which the U. S. equity markets grew at their fastest pace ever. The Bears Bear markets are the exact opposite of bull markets they are markets in which the major indexes have reduced by 20% or more over a period of at least two months (a decline that large for any shorter time period is simply called a correction, especially if it followed a substantial rise). Bear markets usually occur when the economy is in a recession and unemployment is high, or when inflation is rising quickly. The most famous bear market in U. S. history was, the Gre at Depression of the 1930s. Price chart/ Stock Table A price chart graphically illustrates a stocks price action over a selected period one year, for instance. Some investors, called technical analysts or chartists, feel its a waste of time examining financial statements, dissecting analysts forecasts or pondering a firms prospects vis-a-vis the competition. Instead, they believe that a price chart tells them everything they need to know about a stock. Chartists say stock prices move in trends. That is, a stock that has already been moving up in price (up trend) will continue its winning ways, while one going the other way (downtrend) will continue to disappoint its shareholders. The analysis is easy. If the stock is in an up trend, the price will be higher on the right side than in middle or left side of the chart. Conversely, the right side will be lower than the middle or the left side if its in a downtrend. Conclusion In conclusion, people around us might say that Stock Market is a gamble and investors might lose their money anytime. It will only happen if the investor will not do his responsibility as investors. invest is not easy, investor need to do his assignment in order to gain. There have been untold ways about how to make the stock market easier and safer for the new investors. Few, if any, are likely to prove useful or effective. But in order to minimize the risks of financial market imbalances, it is important that there be a well thought-out laws for investing, rules and regulations that implement properly, smoothly, and honestly. This task requires the participation of all concerned investors.Bibliography Khan, A. (1998). Stock Investing for Everyone Tools for Investing Like the Pros (p. 136). Helping Your Child Recover from Sexual Abuse

From a parent point of view I ask the question of how you sustain your boor heal from inner abuse. I have chosen this because I am a parent that is going through trying to help my child heal from her abuse. As I seek the Ashford library, Pro Quest, Goggle, and information from the Womens Center of Houston. I have found that parents play an important role in helping our children recover from sexual abuse. ripe as helping those with school work, trying to tie their shoes, picking divulge their clothes for the day, or even helping them be successful in the future. Its our duty as parents to give them support, belief, and protection when they have been through a shocking experience. How do you help your child heal from sexual abuse? Caren Adams and Jennifer Fay, University of capital of the United States Press, 1987, ask the same question. Put yourself in parents shoes that are going or has been through what we fear each and everyday. Can you admire how it feel if your child comes to you and says it has happen to me?What do you do after the shocking news? The nightmare of coping with the sexual abuse of your child begins. Will your child get over it? Will your child grow up to be an offender? What do you do in the days to come? Will this instill your childs life? Parents of child victims are all over the world are asking this question right now. Hundreds of children are being sexual abuse every year.America reports that every 1 in 4 girls will be sexually abused by thee age of 18, and 1 out of 8 boys will be also. There are many different types of abuse that can occur, but the single most traumatizing type is sexual abuse. internal abuse is unwanted sexual activity forced on a person by another through coercion or threats. Now no one wants their child to go through a traumatic experience growing up. So when something like this happens to your child the question still stands. How do you help your child heal from sexual abuse? This question may be hard to answ er if you never been in this situation before. I didnt issue how to go about to even find ways on healing for my daughter. Her sexual abuse happen when she was 14 year old. Ive called several hotlines to declaim to social workers, of the Child Assessment Center. I just need the premier(prenominal) step in talking to someone about my situation in get some help for my daughter. The social worker was kind enough to tell me that she might need to go to counseling before it gets too late in the future. Counseling for children and teens that has been sexual abuse is good this will help your child to be able to talk about the abuse that he or she has experienced. It rightfully starts from the beginning, when the first thing you need to do is separate your natural reaction to the horrible news from the disbelief of your child. Feeling of disbelief is called denial, and most of the time they longing that all of this is a bad dream.Children hide their feeling from parents and other peopl e around them. Our role is to support our child/children in recovery through reassurance, safety, and love. A parent of a victim of sexual abuse told me that in order to heal from the pain and hurt. We need to find a position of recover first. From that note I realize that it take parents to be able to heal themselves as well, so that they can help their children heal.We must tell our child/children that we turn over them, we love them, Im sorry that this happen to you, It wasnt your fault I will be there to take care of you. The subject on helping your child heal from sexual abuse is important because our children are our future. There is life after the abuse. The victims can become what ever they desire to be in the future and put the hurt in the past. This will allow the healing to take over the world and be successful adults.

Case Study Nissan.Com Fundamentals of Ebusiness

1. Nissan Motor Comp each is concerned about the use of the electron orbit hang Nissan. com and Nissan. net because they do non want potential customers to miss finding their site. They feel the attend Nissan is associated with their company, that they could lose sales by having a domain name other than nissan. com or nissan. net. However I do not feel that a $10 million dollar judgment is justified. Even if customers will not find Nissan immediately upon using the above domain names, they can use Google or Bing to find the domain name.At this stage of internet use, I consider that most users would attempt to find Nissan Motor Company using a search engine. Nissans concern over Uzi Nissans use of the name and websites has to do with brand management. Nissan (Auto Company) feels that by Uzi using the name for his consultant and import/export business, this will confuse consumers that ar using the web as a source of information when distinct for a political machine. With most other large auto industrys-their brand name is also the selling point for the web. When a consumer shopping for a car want to visit Honda, or Toyota, or BMWs site- you are immediately taken in that respect just by entering in the information to the URL. Nissan. com takes you to Uzi Nissans site and to the ongoing issues of the law suit. Nissan Motor feels that Uzi is diluting the Nissan Auto Brand. The error made by Nissan was not purchasing the domain name immediately, however if you do a Google search on Nissan, the website that shows up is Nissanusa. com. The $10 million, in my opinion is really not justifiable.I understand that if Nissan were to obtain the rights to the sites that Uzi has obtained then a change in online branding will need to occur but the justification for that amount is not there. C1. Nissan. com 2. In Uzi Nissans defense, he was granted the rights to use his name to start his online business. This is a direct quote In December 1987, I started an import/export business known as Nissan International At that time, Nissan Motor was not substantially known as Nissan, but primarily as DATSUN. As with the earlier business, I chose to use Nissan in my business name because it was my last name. the domain was registered and promoted as being an internet/computer service provider. Nissan, had done what he felt was right-purchasing and registering the domain names. I do not feel that he has violated any cyber squatting laws, and if he chooses not to sell the names to Nissan Auto Company, he is within his rights. Uzi Nissan feels he should be allowed to use his family name as a domain name. He purchased the name nissan. com in 1994 and nissan. net in 1996. The name Nissan is a common surname in the Middle East. It is apparent that Mr. Nissan is acting in full faith. He is not attempting to cyber squat, which is evident by his not attempting to sell the domains to Nissan Motor Company. 3. Nissan Auto felt that since Nissan was known for auto, that Uzis brand was diluting the auto brand, causing confusion and negatively impacting on Nissan Auto. However, Nissan as the large industry that it is should have been on the ball when registering domain names. Also-they should have originally followed up with their lawyers cist and desist order instead of allowing that garner to fall through the cracks-not communicating with Uzi Nissan. Nissan Motor Company feels that Nissan Computers use of Nissan. om and Nissan. net will confuse the consumer. They argue that when people hear the name Nissan, they think Nissan cars and trucks. They legally offered a generous amount of C1. Nissan. com money to Nissan Computer to purchase the above domain names. In 2003, the court has ordered Nissan Computer not to use the two domain names commercial purposes, but it appears that Nissan Computer is not following this practice. Though it appears that the law suit is still going on I feel that Uzi Nissans right to use his sites, which he purchased, regi stered and used for his computer/Internet export /import business was not a fair decision. His sites are not diluting Nissan Auto-In fact now with the ruling in hand it seems that the only purpose of the Nissan. com and Nissan. net sites are to inform the public about the ongoing fight between one man and a major auto company-if anything It seems to be bad publicity and Nissan Auto could have focused their energy elsewhere. 4. I do not believe this ruling is fair. I personally have come across several websites where the domain name was not the name I pass judgment it to be, based on the company name. However, the domain name used was close enough to the company name for consumers to associate the name and the domain name.As mentioned in item 1, with search engines such as Google and Bing being widely used, most people using the web can find a companys website even if the domain name is not exactly the same as the company name. While there should be laws on cyber squatting, I think there should be some theatrical role of grandfather clause on domain name registration starting with the year 1995. This grandfather clause would eliminate the type of situation that these two companies find themselves in, and thus Nissan Computer Company could use their nissan. com and nissan. net domain names.

The Holocaust and Book Title Night

Night Today everything is possible, even the crematoria. (Night, Wiesel 59) This compound hyperbole signalises Elie Wiesel memoir of all the unreliable events that took place during the holocaust. Elie witnessed the whole experience first-hand. Weisel titled the book Night, evoking both literal and symbolic description of his dark ordeal as a holocaust victim and survivor. Thats it, God is no greater with us. (Wiesel 42) In this excerpt Elie Wiesel used syntax to figuratively exaggerate the despair the Jews faced.Although all Jews felt that God was both no longer there or simply did not exist, this quote was used as a hyperbole to make a seemingly subscript race feel the heat of a religious upheaval. Never shall I forget that first night in camp, which has rancid my night into one long night seven times sealed. (Wiesel 32) By using hyperbole, this excerpt lets Wiesel express this symbolic complex sentence to exaggerate the agonizing feeling of the holocaust organism one long and dark quandary. Never shall I forget those moments which murdered my god and my soul and turned my dreams to trunk. (Wiesel 32) By giving the personification that his dreams were turned to dust helps us as readers understand the full extent of the gruesome nature that had changed the lives of millions forever. This book is a perfect example of Mans inhumanity to man. Babies were fracture and burned right in front of Elie. This could be like someone kicking a puppy in front of you and knowing you cant do anything to stop it. The book title Night helps us as readers understand the dark, outstretched gloomy nature of the holocaust, and the symbolic side of the emotion creation felt during contend. The holocaust was full of remorseful and dark memories like the night sky is black. Elies book titled Night truly shows how terrifying this war was. Over there, thats where youre going to be taken. Thats youre grave. Over there. (Wiesel 38) This literal compound sentence was an excerpt from the book. Its literal effect on readers helped us understand that the thought of death could not be escaped. There was no place the Jews could go, and nothing Jews could do to escape the horrific thought of a horrifying death. Whether this be starvation, a bullet to the chest, or the rematorium, the thought of death haunted them all. What was described as one of the scariest things happening during this time were men good turn on family members. Between killing for a piece of bread and abandoning parents or children for being weak, the holocaust had men acting not as men, but as wild animals. Also on the literal side the excerpt Never shall I forget that smoke. (Wiesel, 32) The smoke that represented where he could have died, and the smoke that turned innocent infant children into nothing more than a diminishing pile of ash.During the holocaust men were not treated as such. To the eyes of German SS soldiers Jews were only when dirt. Wiesels symbolic side of the book was sho wn through personification, hyperbole, syntax and a variety of various sentence structures such as using ways to describe how dark and gloomy his long nights stay at camp was. The title also brought out the more literal side like the smoke he swore never to forget. The symbolic and literal nature of the title Night was a description like no other of Elie Wiesels journey through hell.

These designs are elect because they can give an indicator for the effectiveness of e-learning. Pre/post test results can give a surface value on the effectiveness of e-learning itself.Meanwhile, questionnaires and interviews can approximate students awareness and belief on e-learning as a new tool of learning. Research questions This proposal has four research questions. They are, 1. 2. 3. 4. How does e-learning help in the process of teaching and learning? What are the relations between students academic achievement and e-learning? What are the differences in students academic achievement before and after e-learning treatment? What are the relations between gender, socio-economi c background, academic ability and e-learning? ConclusionAs this is a proposal on the topic of effectiveness of e-learning, collecting and analysing secondary data are all the same in progress. Students or subjects for the research have been identified and preliminary preparation is being made to organise groups, classes and materials for the students. At the same time, questionnaires are being ready and will soon be pilot tested. The pre/post tests are being finalised. It is hoped that this research can be completed within its time frame as the findings may be crucial to the education system in Malaysia.

Critique the Proposal That Van Leer Has Prepared for Total Essay

beginning(a) of all, the object has identified everything that meat was seeking to obtain. These were (1) the best prices at each location based on the overall purchase volume for the group, (2) all quoted prices would be sure for unitary year, with a multi-year design including the escalation on cost of raw materials starting at the second year, (3) an annual rebate based on purchasing levels, and (4) suppliers were asked to include information on their quality assurance and vex collecting facilities.Secondly, every element of the proposal was clear, concise and straight to the point. However, to increase its effectiveness, the proposal may need to assess more on the fulls needs, demonstrating to TOTAL that Van Leer has a clear understanding of their situation. On the other hand, the proposal has succeeded in identifying the problem- that being the postgraduate cost of the proposed unit process in France and outside of France. Thus, by crack rebates and establishing a cum ulative discount policy on all purchasing in Europe, the problem of high unit costs will be improved. Moreover, by providing information of their Quality Assurance programs and Drum recuperation and reconditioning program, their quality of services can be collaborated by twain TOTAL and Van Leer. Assuming that TOTAL also has their own sets of Quality of Service policies, both parties will be able to negotiate with one another and exchange their policies to an agreement and implement on it. The proposal however, does not show the method on how the negotiation will be conducted. This is crucial in guaranteeing atomicity property in the process given that both parties are honest throughout. If TOTAL declines Van Leers offer, it would best if Van Leer holds firm on its price they quoted instead of countering it with a reduction in price. This is because there is no use in putting their business at risk of failure, endangering their operations survival. Furthermore, Van Leer were not th e entirely ones affected by the rise in price of steel (15%), but other steel drum companies are also affected by it. Therefore, it is most likely that they were also forced to readjust their prices of steel. and so the chances of TOTAL switching suppliers were very slim unless the competition offered more comparable international discounts, while maintaining alert market prices- this too is very unlikely due to the high rise in steel prices. Moreover, unconstipated if TOTAL were to decline the offer, Van Leer will still stand to be one of the solid grounds leading steel drum manufacturer- with market share of 37% in Europe in 1995, whilst Blagden, a British company, holding 35% and Gallay-Mauser with 12% market share.

“It is through what we wear that we all establish our identity.” Briefly support or contradict this claim

allow us imagine a world where it was acceptable to roam the streets unclothed. Would you still conform to the norm that utter that it was usual to play out clothes? Most would, but there would be a minority who would restrain the liberty of going out naked. They would be viewed by the majority as anti-conformist and it could pay spiralling effects on other aspects of their life such as their identity. If a teenager wants to rebel against norms, it is very easy. They simply necessitate to turn up to a dinner party in jeans and a t-shirt and no much need be d angiotensin converting enzyme. They would have firmly set an impression in the minds of the other black wagon-lit we arers. It could lead to exclusion from the group even if they knew each other previously because it is showing a face of the person that may have previously been hidden. There isnt a human being who doesnt take coming into court into account when getting a first impression of someone. It is what initially at tracts one person to some other and cigarette give an idea as to what the person may be like. However, identity can be schematic in many ways and clothing is just one of these methods. When locutioning at a busy group of people, it is usually possible to examine the trends that they exhibit and spot people who look out of give and may be trying to change or enhance their identity through their clothing.Describe the tie-in between one particular trend in surface music and what its followers wear.Mom. I wanna be just like Britney Spears were the eight words which rang across the world when Ms. Spears released her saucy Baby One more(prenominal) Time video. Suddenly, it was trendy to dress in school girl uniform and the boys were instantly turned on by teenage girls dressing just like Britney.Had it not been for Britneys video, dressing in uniform at any time other than in lessons would, almost likely, still be very un-cool. Since her first single, Ms. Spears has been an glob al jet-setter and trend setter. With each premiere, awards ceremony and after-show party she has attended, she has been the subject of miles worth of newspaper columns. Teenage girls everywhere have been unable to avoid the tactless and shameful promotion that Jive Records have elicited from Britney and living in the 21st century, it has become almost impossible not to be influenced by the publicity surrounding Americas most famous Virgin. From controversy to contraception, Britney has been linked to everything. The initial hype surrounding her showed that she was popular amongst teenager boys and this was, no doubt, one of the main reasons thousands of teenage girls began to idolise her. Her sweet and innocent image meant that it was cool to be like Britney and this soon led to an explosion in mini-Britneys. There was a risk that she wouldnt catch on though and that she would hoot out as another one-hit wonder. However this was soon disproved when she was pursued quickly by the ot her pop teen queen Christina Aguilera. Just when parents thought that Britney would be a temporary phase that their kids would go through, Christina pops up onto the scene. Bringing yet another set of catchy pop tunes, Christina enforced the idea that it was necessary to look gorgeous, be a size 8 and have a perfect body.Pig-tails were in and pony-tails were out succinct skirts became even shorter and breast enlargements were being ordered left, right and centre. Despite their persistent denial of buying the charge card treatment, private clinics saw an enormous increase in their waiting list around Christmas time.It became cool to wear tight tops, to dress in leather and run around school doing Britney and Christina style dance routines. However, measure change quickly and schoolgirls are already becoming bored of their teen idols style and as Britney turns negative in their eyes, it is now necessary for them to look at the older and more respected artists.Singers like Jennifer Lopez, Samantha Mumba and Janet capital of Mississippi who all have unparalleled style are the new trend. As teenage girls want to raise into appreciated women, their dress sense also proceeds in parallel and they begin to move off from the bubblegum image into a more adult look. They will however, all too often find themselves pre-occupied with the exalted look of women in beauty magazines and on screen. Although this shouldnt be the case, it is an inevitable consequence of living in the midst of technology as we do and at least through these more mature artists, teenagers are growth up quicker. It is ironic to think that Britney is now modelling herself on her fans in order to please them. As they mature and advance in their ways of thinking and styles and trends, Britney is now evolving into a more mature and cerebrate artist more in the style of Janet or Madonna. What is worrying though is that there doesnt seem to be another level to which artists like Britney can go to aft er her fans get tired of her present scheme. contrary the real divas, Britney has a shelf life and it is almost up. Unless she can creatively reinvent herself with yet another new style, her fans will have to look elsewhere for inspiration and it may well be to an anti-conformist who exhibits qualities that are rebellious and not in line with conventional trends.

parley and Global Capital Accumulation - Essay ExampleThe planetaryisation of markets and the requirements of capital are, to a large extent, at the heart of these changes.Globalisation, entailing the removal of barriers to the cross-border flow of capital, has grow the parameters of markets while simultaneously shrinking them. Business firms are no longer limited to their dental plate markets but involve expanded far beyond their borders as a direct consequence of globalisation. Indeed, the home market has become the global market, with the implication being that globalisation has expanded the former and contracted the latter (Freund and Weinhold, 2004). In other words, capital movements effectively obliterated national boundaries and have brought the world into closer contact with one another. The outside(a)isation of capital and the proliferation of international business relationships has largely been enabled by the meshing, both as a medium of conversation and a space for the generation and exchange of capital. The Internet has not simply facilitated communication but in so doing, it has annihilated the space and time barriers. space and time, the historical obstacles to the efficient exchange of information between corporations and markets have, according to Choi (2003) been break ined by the Internet. Its wide application has afforded international business the tools it needs to engage in the global management of its markets and to supervise the international movement of its capital. procurable facts indicate that the Internet has afforded companies such as General Motors the opportunity to create a network of suppliers which spans across 100 countries and to do business in most of the world just as it does in its home market. Further to that, the emergence and pro liferation of the Internet as a media for the control, management and generation of capital has contributed to the multiplication of global foreign direct investment figures (Cohen and Prusack, 2005). Within the context of the stated, it is evident that the Internet has not only facilitated international business but it has contributed to the global flow of capital and its increased accumulation, largely because of its inherent capacity to transgress space and time. The requirements of global capital are not limited to the increased utilisation of the Internet as a business medium but to the redefinition of the very concept of communication. The traditional communication structure, while not obsolete, is increasingly irrelevant. Deetz (2004) explains that communication is no longer limited to the interpersonal and the real world. With the invention of the television and its resultant entry into practically every home across the world, media communication and cultural scholars mainta ined that it was the herald of a new communications and cultural age. This medium, which has inarguably redefined communications and culture, pales in comparison to the Internet. TV transforms individuals into passive recipients of culture and communication while the Internet draws them in as active communication participants and

Australia Ripples the Waters as It Relaxes Cross-Media and Foreign Essay

Australia Ripples the Waters as It Relaxes Cross-Media and Foreign pass onpower Laws - Essay ExampleThat pithy exchange from the past captures the essence of the present-day debate in Australia triggered by the government announcement of plans to deregulate media after 20 years of controls on foreign ownership and cross-media transactions. The Morley-Jones meeting of views between the public service and business orientation of media deferred to old UK conditions, but the corresponding hairsplitting belt up rings true today and continues to reverberate throughout the world as economic opportunities diminish and opposition for scarce resources tighten up. Since almost all sectors of national economies have been served up for foreign interests in the global drive to generate much-needed foreign investment, governments in many parts of the world, both developed and underdeveloped, are fastness their attention on the media industry as the last remaining enticement for foreign inve stors. As Australian Sen. Ron Walker puts it Media has wrick the last major industry begging for reform to bring it to the 21st century.2 By inference, the senator is batting for a new scheme that would keep Australian media in step with the time by allowing foreign investment into the arena.Australia is veering towards that exact direction, with the reforms on foreign media ownership and cross-media transactions programmed to generate effect in 20073. ... This merger is called cross-media ownership in industry parlance. In the interim, the government conducts a nationwide multi-sector consultation in a desire to accommodate every viewpoint in the reform fabric and thus hammer out a final policy that is acceptable to all. The more strident objections, as expected, come from the vanguards of press freedom and the citizens rights to the widest sources of news and information brought to them without the biases of big business. Big businesses the media firms will indeed become if t he set of current restrictions are pulled out. Thus, the debate now raging in Australias media landscape centers on the staple fiber question Are the economic benefits promised by the entry of foreign media and liberalization of cross-media rules enough to justify placing at risk the spirit of competition and independence of media This essay weighs the pros and cons of the issue, ranging the Australian media reform plan against that of other countries exhibiting the same inclinations, if only to see which models it can use to improve a framework that would appeal to the cross-section of Australian society. II. Foreign Ownership of Media Under the Australian media reform plan, regulations on media ownership will be relaxed as they involve both Australian citizens and foreigners. All existing restrictions on foreign ownership and control of media will be abolished as well as relevant barriers contained in both the 1992 Broadcasting Services act upon (BSA) and the Foreign Investment Policy under the 1975 Foreign Acquisitions and Takeovers Act (FATA)4. Limits on simultaneous ownership of

Reflective Assignment Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2000 words

Reflective Assignment - Essay ExampleReid (1993) posits to the effect that a meditateion is a process of reviewing an experience of practice in order to describe, analyse, evaluate and so inform learning nearly practice. Having undertaken the Glo-bus business simulation in a team from early October 2012 up to the end of January 2013, the aim of this explanation is to carry a reflective analysis of the experience I gained from working in this team. This simulation granulose was supposed to put us in a realistic and competitive market setting as well as to try to manage the companys operations. The decisions do were supposed to be evaluated against the decisions made by other competitors comprised of other class members. In order to win the simulation, teamwork is a virtue. From the Glo-bus business simulation, I can safely say that we attained something positive though we as well encountered negative aspects in our team. Therefore, I would like to start by reflecting on the thin gs we have done well and I will also reflect on the areas that were badly done. The main part of the paper will focus on the metaphysical framework of the concept of teamwork as well as to reflect the measures that can be taken to make better the success of teams in organizations. Summary of the simulation game My team was comprised of Anyta Burton, Vira Yurcheto, Muntazer Mohammad, Agil Mohastov and myself. In this team, we were supposed to log on to Glo-bus and familiarise ourselves with the system. We were also supposed to work on the weaknesses identified as a team in order to improve the performance of Glo-bus. We were also supposed to have periodic congregation meetings that were designed to reflect on the progress made as well as to highlight the areas that needed some manakin of improvement. The major strength in our team is that our communication system was clear and open and there was reciprocal understanding among all members. The team leader instituteed an active portion in coordinating as well as controlling all communication processes in the group. All decisions made in the group were reached through consensus and consultations among all members of the team were held prior to the implementation of the decision agreed. We realised that this strategy was rattling efficient in dealing with aspects related to conflicts among the members of the team. The other strength is that we managed to influence all the members of the group to have a positive sense towards the simulation process that we carried out. Indeed, we encountered some challenges in carrying out this exercise but to a certain extent, it can be noted that the combined efforts of the group members played a significant role in carrying out the simulation exercise. The main weakness we encountered in our team is that some of the members were not very confident in what they were doing. This certainly impacted the overall performance of the team. We identified seven weaknesses that wer e supposed to be dealt with. Only two of them were solved while the remaining five required solutions from us as a team. The problem here is that team members like Agile lacked faith in themselves and they did not effectively play their role. For instance, Mo was backing Agile Mohastov after realising that he was slack in his performance. We also had little confidence in him that he would perform to a high level of performance and requirement. This certainly i

With this prime location within driving distance, it is surprising that Primm Valley has even managed to tap business- but it has and to a substantial degree is evident from the money that is earned on busy weekends. toilet the success of Primm Valley is the concentration on the take ons of the large Hispanic population that dominates this and surrounding aras. Hispanics eff to travel in groups and many of these groups of friends, neighbors and relatives meet at the resorts or come together to have a chance at the tables, slot machines, dine, drink and have a entire time. The dis-associative group would prefer to shun the resorts altogether, stating that it would lead to the gambling habit, or maybe that it is
